The electromechanical reset option is available which simulates the disc used in
electromechanical protections. For definite time the protection sends the trip signal
t seconds, after the activation of the pickup, t being the Definite Time setting.
Using curves, the time for the trip signal to be sent depends on the selected curve
(family and modifiers) and on the fault current. Protection functions are evaluated
every quarter of a cycle at the fundamental frequency and a half cycle acting time
can be achieved depending on the magnitude of the fault current.
Appendix I shows the equations for the time calculation as a function of the fault
current and the pickup current.
2.1.1.3. INSTANTANEOUS OVERCURRENT ELEMENTS (50P)
Two instantaneous elements are available (low level and high level) with an
additional time option Figure 2-2 shows the logical diagram of the instantaneous
phase overcurrent low level function.
