8BCONTROL FUNCTIONS
PROTECTION, CONTROL AND METERING FUNCTIONS
2.8.3.1. MODEM TO BE USED
It will use a Sierra Wireless modem Fastrack Supreme 10, formerly Wavecom
Fastrack Supreme 10. It is a quad-band modem (900/1800/850/1900), so it can be
used virtually anywhere in the world to offer GSM coverage.
The required cable between COM1 and modem relay is not included with GSM
modem (optional) so that must be purchased separately. The same applies to the
antenna. It is recommended to contact the vendor before ordering
2.8.3.2. MODEM SETUP
To configure the modem, a Hyper Terminal or Docklight program can be used to
send the following commands:
AT<CR>
sets the modem into attention mode.
AT+CMGF=1<CR>
sets the terminal into text mode.
AT+CSDH=1<CR>
configuration to show header values of the SMS messages
using +CMT.
AT+WIND=255<CR>
configuration for the modem to send unsolicited
messages to the relay regarding signal loss and recovery, SMS reception etc.
AT+CNMI=2,1,0,0,1 <CR>
configures the modem to notify the arrival of SMS
messages.
AT+IPR=115200<CR>
sets the modem speed to 115200bps.
AT&W<CR>
records in non-volatile memory the previous configuration so that
the modem may start with those parameters.
2.8.3.3. COMMUNICATIONS PARAMETERS SETTINGS
The setting of the parameters for the communication between the GSM modem and
the smART P500 relay can be achieved using the proART software o by means of
the keyboard/display combination. The GSM modem should be connected to the
COM1 port located at the back panel of the relay. The modem should be adjusted
using the following parameter values:
