4. MCPMs
MCPM Architecture
An MCPM has 8 internal audio channels for program and 8 internal audio channels for preset. Any
or all of these can be associated with the main video source. You can combine different audio types
on these channels as you wish.
The MCPM accepts 8 discrete audio over inputs for preset and 8 discrete audio over inputs for pro-
gram. See Figure 4-9.
In addition, the MCPM accepts 8 discrete “aux” inputs and 8 discrete “off air” inputs. Although
these names perhaps suggest a use for the inputs, the aux and off-air inputs are simply two extra
sets of inputs. However, the aux and off-air inputs are not processed or mixed with program audio,
but feed directly to the audio meter and monitor outputs. The MCPM offers some choices regarding
what appears on the meter and monitor outputs.
The result of channel processing is, of course, “program audio output.” Program output is (up to) 4
AES pairs that appear on program audio connectors, if the particular MCPM model has them. In
any case, program audio output is embedded in the program video (in groups 1 and 2).

The channel processing function is the same for all 8 internal audio channels: Program main and
program over are mixed. Preset main and preset over are mixed. The two results are then mixed
according to the current transition. If a transition is
not in progress, the mix is 0% preset and 100%
program. Otherwise, the mix varies according to the progress of the transition.

In any case, program audio output and preset audio output are sent to the audio meter and monitor
section where they can be chosen (or not) for output.
