3. Frames

Connectors

Serial Control

The CTRL1 and CTRL2 ports are DE9, RS-422.

You can use these connectors for control using a serial protocol from (1) a primary or secondary
NV9000 router control system, (2) a primary or secondary third-party router control system, or (3)
a router automation system.

The CTRL connectors are needed only when a router is present in the frame and a serial control
protocol is in use.

Cases:

1 If you are using an NV9000 control system with a serial protocol or if you are using a third-

party control system, connect the primary CTRL1 port to a COM port on the system controller.
Similarly connect the secondary CTRL1 port if your frame has a secondary control card.

2 If you have a redundant control system, connect the primary CTRL2 port to a COM port on the

redundant controller. Similarly connect the secondary CTRL2 port if your frame has a second-
ary control card.

3 If you do not have a redundant control system, but have an automation system, connect the pri-

mary CTRL2 port to a COM port of the automation system. Similarly connect the secondary
CTRL2 port if your frame has a secondary control card.

The control system’s COM ports must be compatible with the frame’s serial ports

the same Baud

rate, parity settings and so on.

An automation system’s COM ports must also be compatible with the frame’s serial ports.

Diagnostic Ports

The DIAG ports are DE9, RS-232 or RS-422.

These ports are for configuration, firmware uploads, and testing. The ports are typically used with
UniConfig to initialize the primary and secondary control cards for routing.

The DIAG ports are not used during normal operation.
