Application Notes

Multi-Channel Monitoring

With many stations running multiple channels of master control, video and audio monitoring can be
difficult. One of the unique attributes of Miranda master control can help. You can allocate space in
the frame for a small (multi-format) router in addition to the master control channels. The program
and monitor outputs of the MCPMs can be switched through the router. Router output cards drive
video and audio monitoring equipment. If you are using the NV9000 Router Control System, mon-
itor switching can be integrated in the master control panel (or GUI).

An NV9000 Router Control System, with an appropriately configured NV96

xx

control panel,

allows operators to select individual channels for monitoring with the push of a button. Two or
three channels of master control and the required routing hardware will easily fit into a single
NV5100MC or NV5128-MC frame. (Router control card(s) are required, instead of clock generator
cards.) The router control cards support a wide range of control protocols allowing operation with
either Miranda’s NV9000 Router Control System or those of several other manufacturers.

You can also switch MCPM outputs with external routers, but it is a matter of considerable conve-
nience and economy to use the in-frame router that can switch multiple formats: audio, SD video,
HD video, and other formats as well.

Using Router Pre-Select for Master Control

Any one of hundreds (or even thousands) of router sources can feed any master control input:
