2. Introduction
Aspects of the System
S
The metering input is a dedicated fixed connection, and does not necessarily take input from the
selected M CE. Obtaining input from multiple MCEs requires a router or a multiplexer.
Intuition XG
Miranda’s Intuition XG graphics processor and its associated Xmedia software can be integrated
with the master control system. The Intuition XG subsystem includes a graphics processor that
stores, and plays out, video keys. It can access “live” data including feeds from wire services and
databases. The Intuition XG processor can deliver one or two keys simultaneously to one MCE.
Additional Intuition XG subsystems might be required for multiple MCEs. (Intuition XG is sup-
ported only by MCEs and not MCPMs.)
S
Intuition XG requires at least one SWB input card in the frame of the MCE with which it com-
municates.
See
Intuition XG
on page 153.
Machine Control
MCEs can perform machine control and pre-roll operations. Control panels correspondingly might
have several machine control and pre-roll buttons. Machine control and pre-roll functions are car-
ried out by a DC21 Device Controller on the master control network. The device controller can
control up to 4 VTRs (or similar devices) with a serial protocol (Sony, Odetics, or VDCP) and has
the capability of controlling up to 16 other devices with start and stop pulses.
See
Machine Control and Pre-Roll
on page 166.
Automation
All MCPMs (including MCEs) have an RS-422 port for automation. Automation connections are
serial and point-to-point. (Miranda does not offer an automation system.)
MCPMs can accept either of two serial protocols:
• Miranda’s Serial Protocol for Master Control
1
(document NP0024-00, revision F, presently).
• Thomson M-2100 protocol.
The two protocols are similar.
Ethernet
The MCPMs, control panels, and PCs in an MC system communicate over Ethernet.
An MC system requires a connected PC for configuration purposes, but does not require a PC after
configuration. Of course, if you want to use a software control panel, the PCs on which it is
installed must be connected.
