Structure
Audio Expansion Module
The audio expansion module is optional.
This illustration shows the AXM board and the location of the Dolby E cards on the board:
The AXM receives 8 AES pairs from the audio processor on the core board. Each of the 8 pairs
goes to one of the 8 Dolby E modules on the AXM.
Each Dolby E module decodes its AES input and outputs 5 AES pairs: channels 1/2 (L, R), 3/4 (C,
LFE), 5/6 (Ls, Rs), 7/8 (Lt, Rt), and Aux (also Lt/Rt). Each Dolby module also produces metadata
output. The AXM sends the 5 pairs from each Dolby module back to the audio processor on the
core
— 40 pairs in all.
The AXM sends the metadata output to the first of its backplane connectors. The first connector
presents 8 metadata signals, one for each Dolby module. The 8 metadata ports are configurable.
