MCPM Architecture
Transition Modes
There are 3 modes in which a transition can occur:
• Flip-flop mode.
Whatever was on the program bus
—
main source, effects, and overs
—
appears the preset bus
immediately after a transition. The program and preset buses are effectively swapped.
Flip-flop mode is applicable to the main sources and all effects. Control panels automatically
specify flip-flop mode or normal mode at each transition. (Automation software cannot request
flip-flop transitions.)
• Normal mode.
Whatever was on the preset bus remains on the preset bus after a transition.
• “Clear preset” mode.
A preset effect in “clear preset” mode is removed from the preset bus immediately after a tran-
sition (unless it was on program before the transition). The preset main source remains on pre-
set. Other effects that are not in “clear preset” mode also remain on preset.
“Clear preset” mode is applied individually to the keyer, logo, and squeeze effects during
MCPM configuration. If the effect is configured as “normal,” it always remains on the preset
bus after the transition.
Table 4-1 compares the behavior of effects in the different modes:
Each entry indicates whether the effect is
on
or
off
the preset or program bus, before or after a tran-
sition. Note that row 1 shows that if the effect is off for both buses, there is no change. Likewise,
row 4 shows that if the effect is on for both buses, there is also no change.
S
Flip-flop mode applies to all transitions and is determined at a control panel. “Clear preset”
mode applies individually to effects and is determined during MCPM configuration.
Transition Behavior
During a transition
1 The preset
main source
(1) mixes with, and finally replaces, the program main source on the
program bus or (2) immediately replaces the program main source on the program bus. The mix
behaves according to the transition type (cut, cross-fade, etc.) and transition rate.
2 A preset
effect
(1) fades on or off or (2) cuts on or off, as required, on the program bus. The
effect behaves according to the transition type (cut, cross-fade, etc.) and transition rate.
After a transition
1 In flip-flop mode, whatever was on the program bus
—
main source, effects, and overs
—
appears the preset bus immediately after the transition.
2 In normal mode, whatever was on the preset bus remains on the preset bus.
