5. MCEs
Assembl y
DVE
DVE boards perform squeezeback. DVEs are labelled (A through D) on the core board. DVE C
supports squeezeback on the program bus. DVE D supports squeezeback on the preset bus. DVE B
supports “image 2” for enhanced squeezeback.
DVEs are labelled the same way (A through D) on the preview board. DVE D on the preview board
supports squeezeback on the preview bus and DVE B supports “image 2” for enhanced squeeze-
back on the preview bus.
Dolby E
Each Dolby unit (on the AXM board) receives on AES pair from the core board’s audio processor
and returns 5 decoded AES pairs to the core.
The 8 units are labelled A through H. Units A and B presently support main sources on the program
and preset buses. Units C and D support over audio (including audio for “image 2” under enhanced
squeezeback) for the program and preset buses.
Unit E supports preview main audio. Unit F supports preview over audio, including audio for
squeezeback image 2.
Units G and H are not in use yet.
Assembly
There are 4 ways MCEs can be assembled:
• Core only.
• Core + AXM.
• Core + PVW.
• Core + PVW + AXM.
See the figure on the next page.
You might wish to note these points. However, they are not essential:
1 Assembly requires the use of alignment blocks, standoffs, and inter-board connectors.
2 Attaching a DVE to a core or PVW board requires teflon spacers and 4-40 nuts with teflon
inserts.
3 Attaching a Dolby E module to an AXM board requires a different type of teflon spacer.
4 Dolby E modules and DVE cards snap into their respective slots.
5 The AXM board is thinner (0.062) than the core or PVW boards (0.093). For correct board
spacing, use 0.738
″
standoffs (6 required) to mount an AXM board. PVW boards require (5)
0.707
″
standoffs. A core board by itself requires no standoffs or inter-board connectors.
6 A 2-board assembly requires four 2-board (T-shaped) connectors. A 3-board assembly requires
three 3-board connectors and one 2-board connector.
There are detailed assembly instructions that customers may obtain from Miranda customer ser-
vice. Customers should not ordinarily assemble MCEs.
S
The preview (PVW) card is required for a preview bus and preview functions.
S
The audio expansion card (AXM) is required for Dolby E audio.
