6. Control Panels
Overview
(The audio section of an MCPM can be considered a crosspoint of 8 input channels and 8 out-
put channels: any input can be switched to any output or combination of outputs. An MCE has
a 16×16 audio crosspoint.)
The CECP, CECP M1, CECP GUI, and FECP support audio macros. Audio macros are button
functions that perform pre-defined routes in the internal audio switching matrix. See the
MCS
Panel Configuration Editor User ’s Guide
or any of the relevant panel operator’s guides for
details about audio macros.
The CECP, CECP M1, and FECP have ‘Live Levels’ displays that show the 16 audio levels of a
signal appearing at an audio metering input at the rear of the panel.
• Audio metering and monitoring.
The MCPM’s audio section has identical buses for two audio monitors, A and B, and an audio
metering bus. These buses have direct access to program, preset, off-air signals (if cabled), and
an auxiliary input (if cabled).
A control panel provides monitor level controls. Monitor A and monitor B each have a “Dim”
function.
• Router pre-select.
One of the most important features of Miranda master control is its ability to perform takes in a
upstream router, redirecting any of hundreds (or even thousands) of router source to a master
control input where it can be switched to program output.
• Breakaway.
Operators can perform transitions involving a combination of video and audio from different
sources, as well as normal transitions (video and audio from a single source).
• Configuration and setup.
A control panel provides a way for operators to view its status and software revision numbers,
to redefine its IP address, to start, stop, or restart the panel, to test the panel, and to view panel
log files.
The methods differ from panel to panel.
Some panels do not support all these features. (Unsupported features are few, however.)
New Control Panel Features
The standard control panel features are generally available on all panels and for all MCPMs and
MCEs. The newer panels (CECP, CECP M1, CECP GUI, and FECP) have features that are not
available on older models and that are generally only available for the control of MCEs:
• Preview and aux buses. The MCEs have the buses. The panels (except for the M1) have pre-
view button rows that control main sources, video effects, and audio overs on the preview bus.
(The preview bus does not affect program content.)
• Machine control and pre-roll functions and buttons. MCEs can be configured with machine
control enabled and pre-roll enable, or both. Each individual main source defined for the MCE
can be associated with a machine control type, machine control options, and pre-roll value.
All new panels have machine control buttons and perform machine control operations when
pre-roll sources transition to the program bus. The SCP, an older panel, also performs machine
control.
