4. MCPMs
Overview
MCPM Types
There are 7 MCPM types:
• MCPM-SD
• MCPM-HD, MCPM-HD2
• MCPM-SDHD
• MCPM-MK-SD (“Mixer/Keyer”)
• MCPM-MK-HD (“Mixer/Keyer”)
• MCE
All MCPMs have common characteristics, such as audio meter outputs, GPIO, clean-feed outputs,
and emergency bypass capability, but also have many differences. Refer to Table B-19 in
Appendix B for a comparison.
MCEs (“next generation” processors) are different enough from other MCPMs that they warrant
their own chapter. See Chapter 5,
MCEs
, on page 79.
Common Features
All MCPM models have a diagnostic/configuration port, a reset button, and an emergency bypass
switch (and bypass indicator) at the front. All MCPMs also have a set of LED status indicators. See
Figure 4-3 for an example. Refer also to
LED Status Indicators
on page 208.
The large red “alarm” LED indicates that there is an alarm condition.
The large yellow “active” LED indicates that the MCPM has successfully initialized.
The large green “health” LED indicates that the MCPM is functioning properly. (The red and green
LEDs are opposites: when the green light is on, the red light is off and vice versa.)
The diagnostic port is a DE9 connector through which you can upload software and firmware
upgrades, specify the MCPM’s network address, and perform other tasks using MasterDiag soft-
ware.
A PS alarm LED indicates that one or both power supplies (in the MCPM) show an alarm condi-
tion. The power LED indicates that the MCPM is receiving power from the PS6100(s).
MCPMs have a program output, preview
1
monitor output, and clean-feed output connector. Each of
these provides video output with embedded audio. Some models provide additional AES outputs.
MCPMs have an emergency bypass video input (that supports embedded audio). Some models
have additional (AES) emergency bypass inputs.
MCPMs have 2 video reference connectors and meter/monitor connectors.
MCPMs have control connectors and auxiliary connectors, although the number of pins of auxiliary
connectors differ. The aux connectors provide GPI inputs and outputs and emergency bypass relay
connections, at a minimum.
1. The preview monitor output displays the source and effects of the
preset
bus. This should not be confused with the pre-
view bus outputs of the MCEs.
