5. MCEs

Structure

In addition, the MCE accepts up to 16 “auxiliary” inputs and 16 “off air” inputs. These are discrete
inputs only. Although these names perhaps suggest a use for the inputs, the aux and off-air inputs
are simply two extra sets of inputs. However, the aux and off-air inputs are not processed or mixed
with program audio, but feed directly to the audio meter and monitor outputs. The MCE offers
some choices regarding what appears on the meter and monitor outputs.

The result of channel processing is 16 channels of program audio and 16 channels of preset audio.
These channels are embedded in the program output and preset output that appear at the MCE-
CORE backplane.

The same is true for preview audio. Preview audio is, however, separated from program and preset
audio processing. Preview audio appears, embedded, in the Preview A output of the MCE-PVW
backplane. (The Preview B output is a copy of Preview A.)

Channel Processing

The channel processing function is the same for all 16 internal audio channels: Program main and
program over are mixed. Preset main and preset over are mixed. The two results are then mixed
according to the current transition. If a transition is not in progress, the mix is 0% preset and 100%
program. Otherwise, the mix varies according to the progress of the transition.

Preview main and preview over are mixed separately.

In any case, program audio output, preset audio output, and preview audio output are sent to the
audio meter and monitor section where they can be selected (or not) for output.
