Overview
Signal Formats
Master control signal formats can be a mix of AES audio, analog audio, analog video, SD video,
and HD video. The MFR can route time-code signals and machine-control signals. The master con-
trol (MC) system does not accept signals of these types at the motherboard.
I/O cards can be mixed in many combinations. Generally, each I/O card handles 16 signals.
Audio and video cards and MCPMs share
—
and compete for
—
the output slots. A 16-input SD
video card consumes one slot, leaving fewer slots for other cards. An MCPM-HD requires 4 output
slots (an entire output bay), leaving 4 output slots for router cards or other MCPMs. Trade-offs
must be made during the allocation of slots.
S
Although the MCPM-HD occupies 4 slots, it has “wing” slots that accommodate two SWB
router output cards.
S
The maximum number of video inputs depends on the MCPM. It is either 128, 64, or 16.
All modules and backplanes are “hot-swappable.”
Figure 3-4 is a simplified block diagram of a typical system. In this example, the MCPMs occupy
two output slots each, leaving room for 4 router output cards.
Figure 3 -4. Typical Master Control System
The MFR crosspoint matrix, if present, is distributed among 128×16 crosspoints in the output
cards.
Please note:
S
The MCPM-MK-HD does not receive inputs from the motherboard, but from its own back-
plane.
S
The MCPM-HD and -HD2 each have an additional crosspoint that, in conjunction with an
MFR, can route SWB
3
inputs to 32 SWB outputs. SWB output cards fit in the two “wings” of
the MCPM-HD (or -HD2).
