Glossary
FECP
Full-Size Enhanced Control Panel.
The NV5100MC-FECP hardware control panel.
FFCP
Full-Function Control Panel.
The NV5128-MC-FFCP hardware control panel.
GUI
(Literally “graphical user interface.”) The NV5100MC-GUI (a.k.a. the CECP GUI) is the newer
“next generation” software control panel. The NV5128-MC-GUI (a.k.a. the PC GUI) is an older
one.
HD, HD-SDI
HD and HD-SDI are equivalent terms in master control documents. An HD-SDI signal is a high-
definition, serial digital video format that conforms to the SMPTE 292M standard.
IP address
A 32-bit number that identifies a device on a network. The address is usually expressed as 4 octets,
in decimal notation, joined by periods (e.g., 192.168.7.20). (Although IP means “internet protocol,”
here we just mean network address.)
Intuition XG
Intuition XG is a combination of a video, audio, and graphics processor and Xmedia software.
Key
A video image (called the fill) generally coupled with another video image (the “key”) to be over-
laid, possibly with transparency, on the program output. The “key” is a mask that hides or reveals
pixels in the fill according to the brightness of the pixel in the cutter. Some keys do not have sepa-
rate key images. These “self-key,” that is, the image is masked according to the luminance values in
the fill image itself. Keys are subject to transition type and transition rate.
A
keyer
is the master control function that processes keys.
Layer
One of the video output components (main source, 2 logos, 3 keyers, and squeezeback). The are
called layers because of their visual priority. Functions to the right, on the control surface, have pri-
ority.
Logo
A graphics file (static or animated) that can be overlaid on program output. The logo either contains
a distinct key layer or can “self-key” from its luminance data. Logo files acceptable to an MCPM
are converted from files in common graphic formats (TIF, GIF, JPEG, TGA, BMP, PNG). Anima-
tion source files must be Targa (TGA) files.
MCE
Master Control Engine
. The “next generation” MCPM. The MCE is modular, occupying from 1 to
3 card slots. It is still under development and when development is complete, it will offer many
new and valuable features. At present, the MCE is equivalent to an MCPM-SDHD without dual
squeeze.
MCPM
Master Control Processing Module
. The actual master control switcher. Included in this category
are the MCPM-SD, MCPM-HD, MCPM-HD2, MCPM-SDHD, MCPM-MK-SD, and MCPM-MK-
HD, and MCE.
Module
Modules are interchangeable
—
or modular
—
parts. Master control modules include input cards,
output cards, control cards, power supplies, fans, backplanes, MCPMs, and MCEs.
Reference
Signal
A timing signal used to synchronize events such as the switching of video signals during a specific
portion of the vertical interval. Reference signals are externally applied. In their absence, signals
generated internally (by a control card) are used to sustain operation.
RJ45, RJ-45
Registered jack, type 45. A common 8-pin modular plug and/or jack used in the telecommunica-
tions and broadcast industry to transport Ethernet or machine control signals.
RS-422
Recommended standard 422. Also called TIA/EIA-422-B. A bidirectional serial communications
standard. Miranda documents refer to the latest standard in effect at the time the product was devel-
oped.
SCP
Simple Control Panel.
The NV5128-MC-SCP hardware control panel.
