Microprocessor problems
v
Follow the suggested actions in the order in which they are listed in the Action column until the problem is
solved.
v
See Chapter 3, “Parts listing, Types 7901 and 7902,” on page 19 to determine which components are CRUs and
which components are FRUs.
v
If an action step is preceded by “(Trained service technician only),” that step must be performed only by a
trained service technician.
Symptom
Action
The blade server emits a
continuous beep during POST,
indicating that the startup
(boot) microprocessor is not
working correctly.
For blades with one microprocessor installed:
1.
Use the light path diagnostics to find a failing microprocessor (see “Light path
diagnostics” on page 103). If light path diagnostics indicates a failing
microprocessor, perform the following steps and restart the blade server after
each step until the error is corrected:
a.
(Trained service technician only) Reseat the microprocessor (see “Removing
a microprocessor and heat sink” on page 57 and “Installing a
microprocessor and heat sink” on page 59).
b.
(Trained service technician only) Replace the microprocessor (see
“Removing a microprocessor and heat sink” on page 57 and “Installing a
microprocessor and heat sink” on page 59).
2.
If the error condition remains, reseat the following parts one at a time and
restart the blade server after each step until the error is corrected:
a.
(Trained service technician only) Microprocessor 1 (see “Removing a
microprocessor and heat sink” on page 57 and “Installing a microprocessor
and heat sink” on page 59).
b.
(Trained service technician only) Microprocessor 2 (see “Removing a
microprocessor and heat sink” on page 57 and “Installing a microprocessor
and heat sink” on page 59).
c.
(Trained service technician only) Microprocessor 3 (see “Removing a
microprocessor and heat sink” on page 57 and “Installing a microprocessor
and heat sink” on page 59).
d.
(Trained service technician only) Microprocessor 4 (see “Removing a
microprocessor and heat sink” on page 57 and “Installing a microprocessor
and heat sink” on page 59).
3.
If the error condition remains, replace the following parts one at a time and
restart the blade server after each step until the error is corrected:
Monitor or video problems
The video monitor is a shared BladeCenter unit resource. First, make sure that the
video monitor is assigned to the blade server; then, see the following table and
“Solving shared BladeCenter resource problems” on page 160.
