10-8.6. Engine Cylinder Installation
Prior to installing an engine cylinder, verify:
•
Any worn component or component out of tolerance has been replaced as required
based on the following criteria:
Only allow parts that fall within the tolerance of the
service limits
to remain in service or be re-used. If a part has reached a service
limit tolerance, it must be replaced with a part that conforms to the
specified new part tolerances or service limits.
•
The cylinders have been cleaned as described in Chapter 8, Engine Cleaning in the
Overhaul Manual (OH-24).
•
The pistons and cylinder bores have been cleaned according to “Piston Cleaning”
instructions in Chapter 8 of the Overhaul Manual (OH-24).
•
Fluorescent penetrant, Magnetic Particle, and Dimensional inspections have been
performed on specified cylinder and piston parts as described in Chapter 9, Overhaul
Inspection Procedures.
•
Acceptable hydraulic tappets are installed in the same location from where they were
removed.
•
Cylinders meeting the inspection and service limit dimensional specifications,
assembled per instructions in TCM Overhaul Manual instructions in Chapter 10,
Component Assembly with serviceable pistons and new piston rings partially
installed in the cylinder barrel.
WARNING
The improper use of sealants and lubricants may cause engine
malfunction or failure.
Different procedures apply when installing cylinders on the various types of IOF-550
Permold engines. Refer to the respective engine cylinder installation procedure in the
following sections.
