10-7.2. Oil Pump or Tach Drive Repair and Replacement
Procedure
WARNING
If all power is not disconnected, a loose or broken wire could
allow the engine to start and the propeller to rotate. Do not
stand or place equipment within the arc of the propeller.
1.
Disconnect electrical power to the engine; ensure the Ignition Switch is turned OFF.
2.
Remove malfunctioning oil pumps or oil pump accessories by removing the oil pump
according to the “Oil Pump Removal” instructions in Chapter 6 of TCM Overhaul
Manual (OH-24).
3.
Disassemble, Clean, Inspect, and Assemble the oil pump components according to the
Instruction in Chapter 7 through 10 of the TCM Overhaul Manual (OH-24) using the
Lubrication System Service Limits in section 10-7.7. Replace parts which do not meet
the dimensional specifications.
4.
Install the new oil pump according to “Oil Pump Installation” instructions in Chapter
11 of the TCM Overhaul Manual (OH-24).
NOTE: Repairs other than smoothing nicks on parting surfaces,
replacing studs and worn parts, and refacing the oil pressure relief
valve seat on the oil pump housing are prohibited. The pump
driven gear shaft is pressed into the pump housing and is not field
replaceable. The pump gear chamber must not be enlarged. If it
becomes scored or enlarged, discard and replace the pump
housing. Scoring on the gear contact area of the oil pump cover
renders it unserviceable unless the parting surfaces can be lapped
smooth and perfectly flat.
5.
Perform the tasks listed in Chapter 6, Operational Performance Checks.
