4.
Carefully remove the starter motor assembly without damaging the mounting stud
threads.
5.
Remove and discard the O-ring.
6.
Repair or replace the starter motor in accordance with the TCM Starter Service
Instructions (X30592 or STR-1 for lightweight starters).
10-3.2. Starter Adapter Removal
Procedure
WARNING
If all power is not disconnected, a loose or broken wire could
allow the engine to start and the propeller to rotate. Do not
stand or place equipment within the arc of the propeller.
1.
Disconnect engine electrical power; turn the Master Power and Ignition Switches to
the OFF positions.
2.
Remove the starter motor as described in the “Starter Motor Removal” procedure.
3.
Remove the four sets of attaching parts (two on the outside of the crankcase between
Cylinder 1 and the starter, and two on the cover assembly).
4.
Remove the starter adapter assembly from the crankcase.
5.
Discard the lock washers.
6.
Clean the starter according to the cleaning instructions in Chapter 9 and inspect the
starter motor and adapter according to Section 10-3.3, “Starter and Starter Adapter
Service Limits.”
