7-3.18. Alternator Inspection
Frequency
•
During 500 hour inspection.
Procedure
1.
Remove engine cowling and airframe components necessary to gain access to the
alternator.
2.
Remove the alternator from the engine according to instructions in Chapter 10. If the
alternator is gear driven, perform the Alternator Drive Hub Slippage Inspection in
Section 7-3.18.1. For Belt-Driven Alternators, proceed to step 3.
3.
Inspect the alternator according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
4.
Install the alternator according to Alternator Installation instructions in Chapter 10.
5.
Install airframe components and cowling in accordance with the airframe
manufacturer’s instructions.
7-3.18.1. Alternator Drive Hub Slippage Inspection
The alternator coupling is designed to slip when abnormal torque is required to rotate the
alternator shaft This prevents internal engine damage in the event of an alternator seizure.

Procedure
Inspect the alternator drive hub elastomeric (

Install the alternator drive hub in the Alternator Drive Hub Holding Fixture (Chapter

(Chapter 3, Special Tools and Supplies) and a currently calibrated torque wrench.
