31.3 Set up the MGCP Gateway
The following steps start up the MGCP stack and gateway application. After startup, the gateway
waits a random time (max-waiting-delay command) until it executes the restart procedure and sends
its first RSIP. The RSIP's are sent according to the restart/disconnected procedures described in RFC
2705.
If there is no response, the endpoints become disconnected, and all connections are closed!
If
both MGC IP addresses are cleared, no RSIP's are sent, and the MGCP gateway and endpoints stay
started.
Note:
Several commands have good default values therefore you don’t need to change them.
Procedure

Command
Purpose
Step 1
node
(cfg)#gateway mgcp [mgcp]
Enters the MGCP Gateway configuration mode.
Step 2
node
(gw-mgcp)[mgcp]#bind
interface
name
[router]
Binds the MGCP gateway to an IP interface. The
gateway will listen on this interface for
incoming MGCP commands
Step 3
node
(gw-mgcp)[mgcp]#codec
codec
txlen
Defines the default codec and the size of the
transmitted packets. This codec specifies not a
capability set like in H.323 gateway. It is a so
called fallback-codec.
It is only used
, if no codec
is specified in the MGCP commands.
Step 4
node
(gw-mgcp)[mgcp]#primary-
mgc-ip
ipaddress
Sets the IP address of the primary Media
Gateway Controller (MGC).
Step 5
node
(gw-mgcp)[mgcp]#secondary-
mgc-ip
ipaddress
For redundancy sets the IP address of the
secondary Media Gateway Controller (MGC).
Step 6
node
(gw-mgcp)[mgcp]#domain-
name
{name |
auto}
Sets the MGCP-specific domain name of the
gateway.
auto
sets the domain-name
automatically to the current IP of the gateway.
The domain-name is an identificaton of the
gateway and appears in all MGCP commands
sent or received.
Step 7
node
(gw-mgcp)[mgcp]#max-
waiting-delay
seconds
Sets the maximum waiting delay as described in
RFC 2705. This is the
maximum value
of the
random delay before sending the first RSIP after
