Troubleshooting
Controller problems
Action
The Ethernet activity light
does not come on.
1. Make sure that you have loaded the network
device drivers.
2. Check all connections at the Ethernet controller
or adapter and the hub.
3. The network might be idle. Try sending data
from this workstation.
4. Use another Ethernet adapter (see “Installing or
removing ISA and PCI adapters” on page 82).
5. Use another port on the hub.
6. Make sure that the hub port is configured for
the correct speed (10 Mbps or 100 Mbps).
7. If you force the duplex mode, make sure that
you also force the speed to either 10 Mbps or
100 Mbps.
If the problem still exists, have the system serviced.
Data is incorrect or sporadic.
1. Make sure that you are using Category 5
Ethernet cabling when operating the server at
either 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps.
2. Make sure that the Ethernet cabling is not next
to noise-inducing sources, such as fluorescent
lights.
The Ethernet controller or
adapter stopped working
when another adapter was
added to the server.
1. Make sure that the cable is connected to the
Ethernet adapter.
2. Make sure that your PCI system BIOS is current.
3. Reseat the adapter (see “Installing or removing
ISA and PCI adapters” on page 82).
4. Check for IRQ conflicts with ISA devices. See
“Resolving configuration conflicts” on page 57
for information about handling resource
conflicts.
If the problem still exists, have the system serviced.
