Monitor problems
Action
The screen is blank.
Verify that:
1. The system power cord is plugged into the system
and a working electrical outlet.
2. The monitor is turned on and the Brightness and
Contrast controls are adjusted correctly.
3. The primary monitor signal cable is securely
attached to the monitor and the monitor connector
(video port) on the rear of your server. To find the
location of the video port, see “Input/output
connectors” on page 11.
4. The graphics adapter in your server, if you
installed one, is securely connected to the connector
where you installed it (an ISA or PCI slot connector
on the riser card, or the dedicated AGP slot
connector in the server wall). For the location of
the ISA and PCI slot connectors on the riser card,
see “ISA and PCI adapters” on page 80. For the
location of the dedicated AGP slot connector, see
“System Board Illustration” on page 253.
If the items above are correct and the screen remains
blank, have the system serviced.
Only the cursor appears.

The monitor works when
you turn on the system,
but goes blank when you
start some application
programs.
Verify that:
1. The primary monitor signal cable is securely
attached to the monitor and the monitor connector
(video port) on the rear of your server. To find the
location of the video port, see “Input/output
connectors” on page 11.
2. The graphics adapter in your server, if you
installed one, is securely connected to the connector
where you installed it (an ISA or PCI slot connector
on the riser card, or the dedicated AGP slot
connector in the server wall). For the location of

location of the dedicated AGP slot connector, see

3. You installed the necessary device drivers for the
applications. To install device drivers, follow the
instructions in the ServerGuide package that comes
with your server.
If the problem cannot be isolated and corrected, have
the monitor and system serviced.
