2.6.3 Fan Module Control Modes
This section describes the three fan module control modes, relationship between the fan speed
and temperature, and fan speed adjustment curves.
Control Modes
Fan modules are controlled in the following three modes:
l
Start mode
When fan modules are powered on, the default fan speed is 30% and lasts for 3s. When
the fan module software is initialized, fan modules enter main control mode or automatic
mode based on the communication status.
l
Automatic mode
Before communicating with the active management module, fan modules automatically
adjust the fan speed based on the temperature sensor.
l
Main control mode
After communicating properly with fan modules, the active management module adjusts
the fan speed based on the temperatures of the chassis and components. Fan modules do
not adjust the fan speed based on their temperatures in this mode.
Automatic Mode
The following describes the relationship between the fan speed and temperature (T in
l
T < 35°C (95°F): The fan speed is 25%.
l
35°C ≤ T < 65°C (149°F): The fan speed linearly changes between 25% and 100%.
l
65°C (149°F) ≤ T: The fan speed is 100%.

Main Control Mode
shows the relationship between the fan speed and the air intake vent temperature
(T) in main control mode. Other factors that affect the fan speed are not described here, such
as board temperature alarms and component temperatures.
