Understanding the File Selection Window Format
All file selection windows use the following fields, boxes, and buttons:
• The
Filter
field determines the information that appears in the
Directories
and
Files
boxes. This field displays the default
directory for the command you are using. An asterisk indicates
that all filter directory files appear in the
Files
box.
If you enter another file path or select a directory from the
Directories
box and press or click , the
Directories
box lists all directories and the
Files
box lists all files
located in the specified
Filter
directory.
• The
Directories
box lists all directories specified by the filter.
When you select a directory, your selection is added to the
Filter
field. If you then choose , the
Files
box displays all
files in the directory you selected.
The
Filter
field considers text that follows the last slash to
be a file filter. If you select a directory from the
Directories
box without clearing the
Filter
field, the file selection
window places your selection in the existing path,
preceding the file filter.
• The
Files
box lists all files in the specified directory. When you
click on a file name, it appears in the
Selection
field.
• The
Selection
field stores the file that the current command uses.
You can:
– Use the
Filter
field,
Directories
box, and
Files
box to locate an
existing file name or to add a new file name to an existing
directory.
– Enter another path and file name when you need a file from
another directory, or when you want to add a new file name
to another directory.
When you choose , the command you are using works on the
file you specified. If you are changing an existing file, a confirmation
window appears so that you can verify your choice.
