DIRECTION (Selection of Forward Power Direction)
In the
CORRection - DIRECTION
menu the direction of the forward power can be fixed from port 1 to
port 2 (
1
→
2
) and vice versa (2
→
1)
. The ports 1 and 2 are marked on each directional power sensor.
CORRection - DIRECTION:
Directional sensors with directional coupler are able to measure the power flow between the two RF
connectors from the source to the load and vice versa. In the normal case the NRT should be set so that
the greater of the two values is automatically indicated as the forward power (
AUTO
mode). Due to
measurement uncertainties it may occur however that for very small powers or in case of high reflection
(SWR
→
) a smaller value is measured for the forward power than for the reverse power. In this case
an automatic switchover of the power indication would not be advisable, since the physically available
forward power would be interpreted as reverse power. This can be avoided by fixing the direction of the
forward power in the
CORRection - DIRECTION
menu.

Some of the directional power sensors, as for instance the NRT-Z44, have a privileged direction for the
forward power, which is due to the fact that the reverse direction is more sensitive and the envelope
parameters
(PEP, CF, AV.BRST
and
CCDF)
can only be measured in the privileged direction. Since it
may also be advisable to operate such sensors in inverse mode (eg for measuring very small powers
without measuring the SWR), a choice of three settings (
AUTO, 1
→
2 and 2
→
1
) is offered in this
case, too.
