E-8
The CONFig menu allows the relative readout to be defined in dB or %. To change the current setting,
proceed as follows:
CONF
Press the menu key.
Press the cursor key until
the submenu
∆
KEY is dis-
played:
Use these keys to select the
desired display unit (in the
example shown: %). The
underscore is blinking.
LOCAL
SEL
Confirm the selected setting
with this key. The NRT re-
turns to the measurement
mode.
Note:
Via the CONFig menu (SPEC -
∆∆∆∆
REF submenu) the stored reference value can be
read out and changed.

Measuring Envelope Parameters (ENV)
AVG
ENV
The AVG / ENV key can be used to switch between indication of the average power
(AVG) and any other parameter characterizing the envelope of the RF signal (
ENV
).
Depending on the type of sensor used, the following parameters can be displayed:
PEP
Peak envelope power (PEP)
This is the periodically recurring peak value of the carrier power at maximum
modulation. The PEP is an important parameter for describing the modulation char-
acteristics of transmitter output stages. The level difference between PEP and AVG
may be between 0 dB (CW signal) and some 10 dB (radar bursts).
The PEP function is supported by the sensors NAP-Z7/Z8/Z10/Z11 and NRT-
Z43/44. The latter allow selection of the video bandwidth, so that matching to the
modulation signal characteristics is possible.
PEP
AVG
Crest Factor (CF)
The crest factor indicates the level difference between the PEP value and the aver-
age power in dB. It allows thus to recognize larger modulation distortions. This func-
tion is supported by the sensors NRT-Z43/44.
AV
Average burst power (AV.BRST)
This term is used for pulsed RF signal to define the average carrier power within the
burst. The average burst is equal to the PEP value if the burst is unmodulated and
has no overshoots.
The NRT measures the average burst power by multiplying the average power with
the ratio of burst period to burst width. The two burst parameters must either be
user-defined or the ratio is automatically determined by the NRT. Manual entry of
the parameters is possible any time and the sensors NRT-Z43/44 also allow auto-
matic measurement.
