... designates the average power
within
a burst. It is de-
rived by the NRT from the average power and the duty
cycle. In a submenu it must be defined whether the duty
cycle is to be determined automatically or be derived from
the values entered for burst duration and period.

Measurement of Peak Envelope Power
For measuring the peak envelope power, the video bandwidth used for measuring the detected RF sig-
nal has to be specified. The set bandwidths are sensor-dependent and indicated in the menu in plain
text as soon as the setting

is confirmed in the calling menu. The bandwidths shown in the figure
below – 4 kHz, 200 kHz, and
"FULL"
– can be set with sensors NRT-Z43/44.
"FULL"
means that the
maximum bandwidth of the sensor, i.e. approx. 4 MHz, is used.

Effect of video bandwidth on indicated peak envelope power
The video bandwidth should be selected as narrow as possible for the measurement task at hand, since
in this way the noise superimposed on the rectified signal can be kept low. Low noise allows the meas-
urement of smaller peak envelope powers and causes less variations in indication. Reducing the band-
width too much, however, may lead to an unwanted distortion of the envelope, see Fig. 2-4.
