Note:
To replace the battery, the instrument need not be opened. The battery is acces-
sible from the rear panel (see Fig. 4-1, Rear view).
Caution:
Avoid short-circuiting of the metal contacts of the battery under all circum-
stances. Only use type NRT-Z1 ( DR30AA) batteries.
Removing
the battery
Press together the plastic cap and withdraw the battery.
Inserting
the battery
Insert the battery into the battery compartment on the rear panel with the mark-
ing TOP pointing upwards.
Wrong insertion of the battery and hence wrong polarity is prevented by me-
chanical coding of the battery contacts.
Disposal
Return used up batteries to the dealer or dispose them as hazardous waste. Do
not throw them into the domestic waste or fire.
Charging
NiMH batteries reach their full capacity only after 5 to 10 charge cycles. If a new
battery has been inserted into the NRT, it should therefore be fully discharged
and recharged several times. Charging is usually started automatically if the
NRT is connected to the AC supply after at least three hours battery operation
time.
Charging is always indicated by the danger arrow symbol above the battery sym-
bol lighting up. Charging of a fully discharged battery should be completed after
max. 2.5 hours (danger arrow symbol disappears). Although all important pa-
rameters, including the battery temperature, are continuously monitored during
charging, please observe the following:
Caution:
Immediately disconnect the power plug if there are signs of battery overheating
(smoke or smell).
Note:
Avoid charging at ambient temperatures below 0
°
C or above 45
°
C.
Avoid charging of cold battery (
<
0
°
C).
Occasional charging of partly discharged batteries does not cause any damage. Repeated charging of
fully charged batteries should be avoided. Since it takes some time to detect the fully charged state,
there will be an overcharge during this time which will reduce the battery life.
4.1.3 Storage
The storage temperature range of the NRT is -40
°
C to +70
°
C.
If the instrument with the battery option NRT-B3 is to be stored for a longer period, the battery should be
removed as described in Section 4.1.2. To prevent damage due to overdischarging, the batteries should
be charged every two to three months.
