Cumulative Distribution Function
The
CCDF
function provides information on the amplitude distribution of the envelope, ie on the prob-
ability of the actual value of the envelope power lying above a preset threshold
(CCDF.REF)
. The prob-
ability in % is indicated together with the threshold value.
The
CCDF
function can only be used to determine the forward power! If the power indication is set to
"F-R" (absorbed power, see Section 2.3.2), automatic switchover to
FWD
(forward power) is made when
CCDF
is selected.
After selecting the
CCDF
parameter the entry of first the threshold and then the video bandwidth is re-
quested.
a)
Entry of the CCDF Threshold
CONFig - ENV KEY -
CCDF
-
CCDF.REF:
Unit:
W, dBm / dB
Preset:
depends on the sensor used
IEC/IEEE command:
:SENSe<n>:FUNCtion[:ON]"POWer:FORWard:CCDFunction"
:SENSe<n>:POWer:CCDFunction:REFerence 8.0 dB
The threshold can be entered either as an absolute value (in W or dBm) or in dB, referred to the stored
reference value. The unit is switched with the cursor keys
and
at the associated digit.
b)
Selecting the video bandwidth:
CONFig - ENV KEY -
CCDF
-
VID.BW:
The selected video bandwidth should be at least as large as the bandwidth of the demodulated signal to
avoid the loss of any details of the envelope. As a rule of thumb, the demodulated signal should have
approximately the same bandwidth as the RF signal. The bandwidths shown in the figure above – 4 kHz,
200 kHz, and
"FULL"
– can be set with sensors NRT-Z43/44.
"FULL"
means that the maximum band-
width of the sensor, i.e. approx. 4 MHz, is used.
To ensure a wide dynamic range, the video bandwidth should be set to the smallest possible value
where several settings are possible. Table 2-1 shows the appropriate settings for a variety of wave-
forms.
The video bandwidth set in this menu overwrites the bandwidth settings made in the menus
PEP, CF
and
AV.BRST
.
IEC/IEEE command:
:
SENSe<n>:BANDwidth:VIDeo:FNUMber <f>
<f>
: see Table 2-1, the preset value depends on the sensor used.
