Installing the operator information panel assembly

Use this information to install the operator information panel assembly.

Before you begin

Read the safety information in “Safety” on page vii and “Installation guidelines”
on page 34.

If you are replacing a component or installing an optional device in the server, you
need to turn off the server and peripheral devices, and disconnect the power cords
and all external cables.

About this task

To install the operator information panel assembly, complete the following steps.

Procedure

1.

Unlock and remove the left-side cover (see “Removing the left-side cover” on
page 39).

2.

Remove the air baffle (see “Removing the air baffle” on page 210).

3.

Remove the fan cage assembly (see “Removing the fan cage assembly” on
page 304).

4.

Disconnect the drive cables from the back of the drive bay 1.

5.

Remove the DVD drive (see “Removing a DVD drive” on page 230) or the
tape drive (see “Removing an optional tape drive” on page 233) which is
installed in drive bay 1.

6.

Touch the static-protective package that contains the operator information
panel assembly to any unpainted metal surface on the server; then, remove
the assembly from the package.

7.

Angle the operator information panel assembly so that the edge of the
assembly is in the guide slot.

8.

Slide the operator information panel assembly forward until the release latch
clicks into place.

9.

Connect the operator information panel assembly cable to the system board
(see “System-board internal connectors” on page 27 and “Internal cable
routing and connectors” on page 186).
