Remove valve cotters.
Withdraw valve spring compressor, valve
spring retainer and valve spring.
Valve Spring Inspection
C h e c k v a l v e s p r i n g f o r v i s i b l e
damages, If any, replace valve spring.
Check valve spring for free length and
straightness. (see picture 055302)
Valve sprint free length
New 40 mm (1.575 in)
Service
limit
38.2 mm (1.504 in)
Replace valves springs if not within
specifications.
Valve Spring Installation
For installation, reverse the removal
procedure. Pay attention to the following
details. Colored area of the valve spring
must be placed on top. (see picture
055303)
To ease installation of cotters, apply oil
or grease on them so that they remain in
place while releasing the spring.
Note: Valve cotter must be properly
engaged in valve stem grooves.
After spring is installed, ensure it is
properly locked by tapping on valve stem
end with a soft hammer so that valve
opens and closes a few times.
Warning: An improper locked valve
spring will cause engine damage.
