The armature assembly (

The armature assembly is supported with the plate spring, and is separated from the field by a
narrow gap. Loaded with the coil spring (

When the coil is turned on, the field attracts the assembly against the coil spring pressure, thereby
removing the pressure on the disk and releasing the brake.

When the power supply is turned off, the coil spring force presses the armature assembly against
the disk, quickly applying the brake.
