Switcher System Timing
GV K-Frame XP systems can be configured for all IP, all SDI, or a combination, therefore the
timing and delay must be planned for carefully.
IP Auto-timing
Decapsulation (data unpacking) buffers can accommodate multiple line differences
between IP inputs but the output of the decapsulation must be SST plus a few
microseconds in order to align all of the inputs for video processing.
Encapsulation (data packetizing) time varies depending on the video line rate.
Encapsulation time is how long it takes to accumulate a packet of data; a packet will not be
transmitted until the packet is full. 1080p and 1080i take approximately one quarter of the
time of a line of video to complete encapsulation of one packet while 720p takes
approximately one third of the time of a line of video.
Additionally, TICO encoding adds approximately five lines of delay and decoding adds
approximately three lines of delay.
The following diagram shows the SDI/IP signal path and provides example of the timing
delays and offsets that need to be considered as part of system configuration.
