Changing Text Style and Format

You have many options for creating attractive, easy-to-read text that

conveys your ideas visually. You can change the appearance of the

characters you use, as well as the alignment and spacing of lines in a

paragraph. Indentations and hanging indents allow you to offset text and

numbered lists.

How a character looks on the screen and when it is printed is determined

by its font, size, style, and other

attributes

. You can change the

appearance of your document by changing the way text appears. You can

apply character attributes in two ways:

You can select the text that you want to change; then choose the

attribute you want.

You can choose the attributes you want; then type new text. The

Typewriter applies the current attribute settings to any text you

type.

To change character attributes:

1. Select the text you want to change.
2. Pull down the Character menu.

Three submenus appear.

Font.

Choose from among seven fonts: Occidental, Ping Pong,

Shattuck Avenue, URW Mono, URW Roman, URW Sans, and URW

SymbolPS. If you would like to see the fonts before you decide,

select Font Viewer.

A sample of all available fonts can be seen from

this dialog box. Click on Apply to apply your changes to the

highlighted text.

The URW Mono font is most like a typewriter font. It is

monospaced

; every character uses the same amount of space.

The other fonts are

proportionally spaced

; the space taken by a

character is relative to the character's width. In other words, an i"

uses less space than a w."

Size.

Select the size of the characters.

You can choose any size

from 4 to 12 with the Custom Point Size dialog box. The standard

choices are 9, 10, and 12 point.

Style

. Select the type style: Bold, Italic, Underline, Strike Thru,

Superscript, Subscript, Boxed, and Button.

Color

(for Ensemble color models only).

To change the font from the tool bar:

1. Select the text you want to change.
2. Click on Fonts on the tool bar.

A dropĆdown menu of fonts appears.

3. Select the font.

The highlighted text appears in the font you selected.

Italic
Underline
Strike Thru

Superscript Subscript

Boxed
Button

When you select either Boxed or
Button style, you must use single
spacing. Using anything other
than single spacing yields
unacceptable results.
