Displaying Counts
WordProcessing counts the number of characters, words, lines, and
paragraphs in a document. You can use this information when your
document needs to be a minimum or maximum size, such as a report that
must be 250 to 300 words long, or an article that cannot exceed 30 lines.

To view document counts:
1. Choose Counts from the Edit menu.
The dialog boxon the left appears.
2. Click Close to close the dialog box.

To recalculate document counts:
1. Choose Counts from the Edit menu.
A dialog boxappears.
2. Position the insertion point in the text andmake the changes that affect
the number of characters, words, lines, or paragraphs in the document.
3. Click on Count Again.
4. Click on Close to close the dialog box.
Using Abbreviated Phrases
AbbreviatedPhrase is an easy way to type long phrases into your Word
Processing documents. Use the Abbreviated Phrase dialog box to build a
list of abbreviations that represent longer phrases. For example, if you
commonly use the phrase Chief Executive Officer," you couldput that
phrase in the list with the abbreviation ceo." Then, whenever you want to
use the long phrase, you type ceo" andpress
CODE + X
. Your
abbreviation will be replacedby the long phrase. Note that the
capitalization of the abbreviation in your document must exactly match
the capitalization of the abbreviation in the AbbreviatedPhrase dialog
box.

To create, add to, or edit the abbreviated phrase list:
1. Click on AbbreviatedPhrase in the Character menu.
The Abbreviated
Phrase dialog boxappears.
2. Click on Add.
The Add Abbreviation dialog boxappears.
3. Type the abbreviation in the Abbreviation box (e.g., CEO).
4. Type the phrase in the Phrase box (e.g., chief executive officer).
5. Click on Apply. Your abbreviatedphrase appears in the Abbreviated
Phrase dialog box.
6. To edit any abbreviated phrase or abbreviation, select it and click on
Edit.
7. Make your changes in the Edit Abbreviation dialog box and click on
Apply.
8. To save your abbreviatedphrase list, click on Save.
Your list will
automaticallybe saved as ABBREV on diskette.
You can make changes to the text
while the dialog box is visible,
then recalculate the counts if you
want to see the impact of a
change to the document.
Click to recalculate the counts.
