12. Select the desired transition:
• Press
CUT
(in the MLE Key group) to cut the key on (or off) air. Refer to the
section “ Key Cut Notes ” on page 7–47 for additional rules.
• Select a transition rate, then press
AUTO TRANS
(in the MLE Key group) to
transition the key On or Off . Refer to the section “ Using Auto Transitions ” on
page 7–45 for instructions on changing transition rates. For additional rules, refer to
the section “
Key Auto Transition Notes ” on page 7–47.
• Use the proper
KEY 1
or
KEY 2
“next transition” button (in the MLE Transition
Group ) to bring the key on (or off) air. Refer to the section “ Working with Next
Transitions ” on page 5–9 for instructions on the three “next transition” buttons.
This completes the procedure to perform a Chroma Key on an MLE Keyer.
Chroma Key Fine Tuning Tips
Adjusting a Chroma Key is an iterative process. To achieve the best looking key, you must adjust a set
of parameters and then
return to those parameters for subsequent adjustment — after other values
have been set.
The following is a set of basic steps you can use for fine-tuning your Chroma Key:
1. Select
Black
as your background, choose your Chroma Key source on the Key Bus , and
press
CHROMA KEY
.
2. Turn
KEY INV
off.
3. Turn
GAIN
to zero (0.0%).
4. Turn
SUPPRESS
to zero (0.0%).
5. Toggle
SHADOW
off.
6. Set REJECT to the upper mid range (80.0%).
7. Set the CLIP very low (e.g., 1% - 2%), to a point where you see a prominent change on
screen, even if only portions of the background are clipped out — and even if those
portions are the incorrect color.
8. Rotate HUE until you begin to see the proper color key out (typically blue or green).
• Note that position, and continue turning until you move beyond that hue to another
color.
• Rotate the
HUE
knob back, and position the knob in the center of this range —
finding the spot where the maximum amount of the proper color is keyed out.
• If you cannot key out the desired color at all (or even find a range of hues that
work), widen the
REJECT
control (e.g., move from 80% down to 50%) and try
again.
9. To make clip and gain setup errors very visible, select MATTE FILL , and fill the key
with white.
10. Re-adjust CLIP to the maximum value possible — without bringing in shadows and
other defects in the chroma key set. A value of 15% (or better) should lead to a very

However, you cannot enable the
