FRONT WHEEL/SUSPENSION/STEERING
Route the hose,
wires and cables
into the cable
guides properly
(page 1-20).
Install the top bridge and stem nut.
Install the fork legs into the bottom and top bridges,
but do not tighten the top bridge pinch bolts yet
(page 15-24).
Tighten the stem nut to the specified torque.
TORQUE: 103 N-m (10.5 kgf-m, 76 lbf-ft)
Tighten the top bridge pinch bolts to the specified
torque.
TORQUE: 23 N-m (2.3 kgf-m, 17 lbf-ft)
Turn the steering stem left and right, lock-to-lock
several times to make sure the steering stem moves
sm oothly, w i:hout play or binding.
Install the following:
- Front wheel (page 15-15)
- Front fender (page 3-12)
- Handlebar (page 15-7)
STEERING BEARING PRE-LOAD
NOTE:
Make sure there is no cable, w ire harness or hose
interference.
Support the motorcycle securely and raise the front
wheel o ff the ground.
Position the steering stem straight ahead.
Hook a spring scale to the fork tube between the
fork top and bottom bridges.
Pull the spring scale keeping it at a right angle to the
steering stem.
Read the scale at the point where the steering stem
just starts to move.
STEERING BEARING PRE-LOAD:
11.9 - 15.6 N (1.2 - 1 .6 kgf)
If the readings do not fall w ithin the lim its, readjust
the steering top thread (page 15-25).
