MAINTENANCE
RADIATOR COOLANT
Check th e c o o la n t le v e l o f th e re s e rv e ta n k w ith th e
e n g in e ru n n in g at n o rm a l o p e ra tin g te m p e ra tu re .
T h e level should be b e tw e e n th e "UPPER" and
"LOW ER" level lines w ith th e m o to rc y c le is in an
u p rig h t position.
If th e level is low , re m o v e th e re s e rv e ta n k cap, and
fill th e tank to the "UPPER" level lin e w ith a 1:1 m ix ­
ture o f d is tille d w a te r a n d a n tifre e z e (c o o la n t p re p a ­
ration: p a g e 7-6).
RECOMMENDED ANTIFREEZE:
Pro Honda HP coolant or equivalent high quality
ethylene glycol antifreeze containing corrosion
protection inhibitors (1:1 mixture w ith distilled
water)
Check to see if th e re a re a n y c o o la n t leaks w h e n th e
co olan t level d ecreases v e ry ra p id ly .
If th e re s e rv e ta n k b e c o m e s c o m p le te ly e m a ty ,
th ere is a p o ssib ility o f a ir g e ttin g in to th e c o o ing
system .
Be sure to re m o v e a n y a ir fro m th e c o o lin g system
(page 7-6).
COOLING SYSTEM
Check th e ra d ie to r a ir p a s s a g e fo r clo g s o r d a m a g e .
S traigh ten bent fin s w ith a s m a ll, fla t b la d e s c re w ­
d river and re m o v e insects, m u d o r o th e r o b stru c­
tions w ith co m p re s s e d a ir o r lo w p re s s u re w a te r.
Replace th e ra d ia to r if th e a ir flo w is re s tric ted over
m o re th a n 2 0 % o f th e ra d ia tin g surface.
For ra d ia to r re p la c e m e n t (p a g e 7-10).
R em o ve th e left u n d e r c o w l (p a g e 3 -1 1 ).
Check fo r a n y c o o la n t le a k a g e fr o m th e w a te r p u m p ,
rad iator hoses and hose jo in ts .
Check th e ra d ia to r hoses fo r cracks o r d e te rio ra tio n
and replace if necessary.
Check th a t all hose c la m p s a re tig h t.
Install th e left u n d er c o w l (p a g e 3 -1 1 ).
