ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS)
PROBLEM CODE 13, 14, 23 or 43
(Rear Wheel Speed Sensor)
NOTE:
• The ABS indicator m ight blink under unusual
riding or conditions (page 18-8).
This is tem p o rary failure. Erase the problem code
(page 18-7).
Then test ride th e m otorcycle abo ve 30 km/h
(18 m p h ) and check the problem code by retriev­
ing th e self-diagnosis system (page 18-6).
• If the problem code 43 is indicated, check the
rear brake for drag.
1. Speed Sensor Air Gap Inspection
M e a s u re th e c le a ra n c e ( a ir g a p ) h e tw e e n th e
sensor and pulser ring (page 18-21).
Is th e a ir gap correct?
NO - Check each part fo r defo rm ation and
looseness and correct accordingly.
Recheck the a r gap.
YES
- GO TO STEP 2.
2. Speed Sensor Condition Inspection
Inspect the area around the rear w heel speed
sensor:
Check that there is no iron or other m agnetic
deposits betw een the pulser ring and w heel
speed sensor, and check the pulser ring slots for
obstructions.
Check installation condition of the pulser ring or
w heel speed sensor for looseness.
Check the pulser ring and sensor tip for defo r­
m ation or d am ag e (e.g., chipped pulser ring
teeth).
A re th e sensor a n d p u lse r rin g in g o o d c o n d i­
tio n ?
NO - Rem ove any deposits. Install properly
or replace faulty part.
YES - GO TO STEP 3.
3. Speed Sensor Line Short Circuit Inspection (at
sensor side)
Disconnect th e rear wneel speed sensor 2P con­
nector.
Check fo r continuity betw een each term inal
(Blue and W h ite) of the sensor side 2P connector
and ground.
CONNECTION: Blue-G round
W hite-G round
Is there c o n tin u ity ?
YES
- Faulty rear wheel speed sensor.
NO
- GO TO STEP 4.
