10.1 USB Settings and Connections

Connect the instrument to the PC with a USB cable.
Install the USB driver before communicating with the instrument the first time (p. 213).

The first time the computer is connected to the instrument, follow the next steps to recog-
nize the instrument.

For Windows Vista

Windows

The instrument is automatically recognized, and preparations to use the device are com-
plete.

3. Connecting the instrument to a PC

To avoid electric shock hazards, turn off all devices before connect-
ing or disconnecting the USB cable.

• Do not pull out the USB cable during data transfer. Doing so would pre-

vent proper data transfer.

• The instrument and PC should be connected to the same earth ground. If

grounded separately, potential difference between the ground points can
cause malfunctions or damage when connecting the USB cable.

Orient the USB cable plug properly,



and insert it into the receptacle.

Connect the other end of the cable



to a USB port on the PC.
