ISDN Settings
This tab contains several options for use with ISDN. These options are shown in the screenshot below:
Dial Timeout
:
This option allows you to set a value for the dial timeout
– the length of time (in seconds) that
a WorldCast Equinox will wait for an ISDN call to connect before abandoning the call. The cur-
rent value is displayed and you are prompted to enter a new value. Press
Ent
to complete.
Network and Country:
This option allows you to configure the WorldCast Equinox unit to operate with the correct
ISDN signalling protocol used by the local telephone company.
SD Redial
The option is used to control Speeddial Redial
– if enabled whenever the WorldCast
Equinox tries to connect to a remote codec using a speed dial but the connection is un-
successful then the WorldCast Eclipse will make subsequent attempts. To turn this fea-
ture on select
On
in the menu and press
Ent
. You will then be allowed to enter the num-
ber of retries
– use the
and
keys to select the number of retries you need.
Decrementing the retry count past 1 will set an infinite number of retries.
Layer 1 TEI Drop
ISDN exchange settings vary from country to country in terms of how ISDN calls are con-
nected and disconnected. In Australia for example, the exchanges drop Layer 1 after
each call is disconnected. The Terminal Endpoint Identifier (TEI) number is also renegoti-
ated for every call made.
The ETSI protocol requirements do not explicitly state whether the TEI negotiation may or
may not be negotiated for every ISDN call after a Layer 1 re-activation.
This allows other countries to set the Layer1/TEI appropriately to suit the exchanges.
Data over Voice
:
DoV is a feature on the Codec which sends a code ( bearer capability ) to the Telstra ISDN
Cisco Router telling it that it is about to set up a voice call. It lets the Telco know it requires a
3.5 KHz G711 service and as this service is not charged on a timed basis but at a flat rate per
connection, the user of the service get a cheaper connection. Once the connection is made
