Zeroing the Mainstream CO
2
sensor
For mainstream CO
2
modules, the sensor should be zeroed in the following conditions:
■
Before each measurement.
■
A new adapter is used.
■
Reconnect the sensor to the module.
■
The message
CO2 Zero Required
displays. In this case, check the airway adapter for any blockage, e.g.
mucus, etc. If a blockage is detected, clear or replace the adapter.
To zero the sensor, follow this procedure:
1.
Connect the sensor to the module.
2.
In the
CO2
menu, select
Setup
tab.
3.
Set the
Operating Mode
to
Measure
. The message
CO2 Sensor Warmup
is displayed.
4.
After warm-up is finished, connect the sensor to a clean, dry airway adapter. The adapter should be vented
to the air and isolated from CO
2
sources, such as ventilator, the patient’s breathing, your own breathing, etc.
5.
Select
Zero
in the
CO2
menu. The message
Zeroing
is displayed.
It takes about 15 to 20 seconds. The message disappears when the zero calibration is completed.
WARNING
•
When perform a zero calibration during the measurement, disconnect the sensor from the patient’s
airway first.
•
Please do not rely on the readings during zeroing.
