Basic Detector Setup Using Lynx
A basic detector system (except the user interface and the Lynx' AC power adapter)
has four connecting cables: a 9-pin preamp power cable, an SHV-SHV cable, and
two BNC-BNC cables. A third BNC-BNC cable may also be required in some
instances.
•
The detector cables discussed in Preamplifier Power and High Voltage Power
Supply sections below will connect only to the specified connectors on the
preamp and the Lynx.
•
Both the Energy and HV INH BNC cables have the same type of connector;
either of them can be used for the connection described.
Preamplifier Power
Connect the cable with the 9-pin male connector between your preamplifier's
POWER connector and the Lynx's PREAMP connector.
The PREAMP connector includes a bail mechanism to secure the preamplifier's
power cable to the Lynx unit.

Note: Your preamp's connectors may be accessible either on the preamp's rear panel
or at the ends of the “pigtail” cables attached to the preamp.
High Voltage Power Supply
The HVPS options depend on your detector and your acquisition setup. The
connector below shows the detail of the SHV connector end found on a cable used
for the High Voltage Power Supply connection.
•
If your detector requires, and you've configured the Lynx to supply
positive
high voltage, connect the SHV cable between the preamp's HV INPUT
connector and the Lynx's HV+ connector.
•
If your detector requires, and you've configured the Lynx to supply
negative
high voltage, connect the SHV cable between the preamp's HV INPUT
connector and the Lynx's HV– connector.
