Method 2: Update Firmware via the Boot Loader
The Boot loader firmware update method may be used anytime to update a Lynx
from any firmware version to any firmware version in a single step; it may even be
used to restore a non-responsive Lynx. Requires an Ethernet cable and a Serial
RS232 cable. The host PC requires Ethernet connection to the Lynx, available RS232
port, and Terminal Emulator utility.
Use this method of updating the firmware when the application’s web interface is
not
operating, or the Lynx cannot be accessed through a web browser, or specifically
requested by the update instructions.
The steps that follow are intended for a person having basic knowledge and
experience with computers, interfaces, and communication. In some cases, you will
receive appropriate instructions along with any updates from our Product Support
personnel.
Firmware for the Lynx V1.5 is supplied as two binary files, typically named
DISK.BIN and NK.BIN, firmware files are located under the Firmware folder of the
supplied media.
Important
:
For this procedure the
DISK.BIN
file must be used.
The PC must have firewall disabled or otherwise the TFTP upload will
not work.
Note: This update is an 'Administrator' or service type of event, not normally
required of a Lynx user. The update procedure requires the Lynx is not in
service and is not being used for data acquisition, and that the following steps
are followed:
1.
The Lynx should be connected directly to your PC. The PC’s Ethernet
adapter must have an assigned IP address of 10.0.0.4 or higher; the first,
second, and third octet of the PC’s IP address must be “10”, “0”, and “0”
respectively. The fourth octet must be greater than “3”.
Note: If using a network switch to connect to the Lynx, the (yellow) direct
Ethernet cable must be used. If connecting directly to the Lynx the
(red) crossover Ethernet cable must be used.
2.
Make a “\Tftp” temporary working directory on your hard drive, then copy
both the contents of the Lynx Utils CD’s \TFTP folder and the supplied
disk.bin file to the temporary \Tftp working directory.
3.
From the
\Tftp
working directory run
tftpd32.exe
.
4.
Connect to the Lynx via Ethernet assuming default IP address of 10.0.0.3.
