The overall goal of this feature is to maximize throughput on each upstream channel and to ensure delivery of acceptable
service levels by reducing packet errors. Upstream channel conditions change continually, but Upstream Agility can make
the dynamic adjustments required to respond to those changing conditions.
Each state is defined by the following three parameters:
Center frequency
Channel width
Modulation profile
The term spectrum group in this manual is synonymous with state machine: it is defined by a selection of a center
frequency, a channel width, and a modulation profile. The modulation profile defines a number of parameters for each
type of Interval Usage Code (IUC).
Monitoring Upstream Agility State Machines
Upstream Agility state changes are reported via syslog. The syslog defaults to notice level, but the user can change the
syslog priority with the following command:
configure logging override event <eventid> priority <emergency | alert | critical |error |
warning | notice | information | debug>
In addition to the syslogs, the history log also stores all information that is logged via syslogs. This information is
retrievable via the various show commands listed under
The C4/c CMTS indicates in the syslog each occurrence of an Upstream Agility state change. In each case, the syslog
includes a timestamp, a description of the change (incorporating both the current state and the prior state), and indicates
the cable-mac and upstream channel where the state change took place. In addition, a new parameter, Change ID, is
displayed in the syslog. The Change ID includes the slot number, channel number and the 16-bit counter which keeps track
of the number of state changes. What follows is an example of the syslog output:
