Purpose
CLI Command(s)
Create a 5 Mbps DS and a 1 Mbps US service
class for when the subscriber is in penalty:
configure qos-sc name GoldDn_enforce max-tr-rate 5000000 dir 1
configure qos-sc name GoldUp_enforce max-tr-rate 1000000 dir 2
Assign the penalty (enforce) service class
name to the normal service class name, and
assign the trigger, history, penalty duration,
and sampling interval:
configure qos-sc enforce-rule GoldDn enforce-name GoldDn_enforce
trigger 7500 history 02:00 penalty-duration 00:30 sampling-
interval 5
configure qos-sc enforce-rule GoldUp enforce-name GoldUp_enforce
trigger 2500 history 02:00 penalty-duration 00:30 sampling-
interval 5
This feature is enabled on all cable-macs by
default.
If necessary, enable it on a given cable-mac:
configure interface cable-mac 1 cable qos-sc enforce-rules
enable
Dynamic Service Class Modifications
Certain MSOs have requested a feature that offers a more efficient, less disruptive way to update the QoS parameter sets
of Service Class Names (SCNs). This feature allows SCNs to be changed as desired. The CMs using them can then be
updated individually or collectively, without a service interruption because the CMs are not reset. Standard DOCSIS
Dynamic Service Change (DSC) messaging is used to trigger the updates.
An MSO could use this feature, for example, to change the TMax of a service tier defined by an SCN. Just two CLI
commands would be necessary: one to change the SCN parameter and another to apply the change.
Operational Considerations for Dynamic Service Class Modifications
MSOs and operators of the C4/c CMTS should be aware of the following when using this feature:
Only unicast, static service flows using SCNs can be updated by this feature. Multicast and dynamic service flows are
excluded.
This feature permits the modification of SCNs even if they are in use. The operator chooses when to apply the revised
SCN parameter set by using the following CLI command:
configure qos-sc name <service class name> apply-update [<mac-addr>].
