Calibration
Chapter 6
Calibration Materials
WARNING: Potential Biohazard. Consider all clinical
specimens and controls, calibrators, etc. that contain human
blood or serum as potentially infectious. Use established, good
laboratory working practices when handling these samples. Wear
gloves, lab coats and suitable eye protection and follow other
biosafety practices as specified in the OSHA Bloodborne
Pathogen Rule or other equivalent biosafety procedures.
Three calibration materials can be used to calibrate the
CELL-DYN 3000:
•
CELL-DYN Calibrator
Calibration with CELL-DYN Calibrator is most efficiently
performed by calibrating the Open mode. The Closed mode is then
calibrated to correlate with the Open mode using fresh whole blood
samples.
•
Fresh Whole Blood
Calibration with fresh whole blood is accomplished by performing
multiple analyses of each sample by acceptable reference
methodology and calculating the mean reference value for each
parameter. The same samples are analyzed on the CELL-DYN
3000 in the Open mode. The Closed mode is then calibrated to
correlate with the Open mode using another set of fresh whole
blood samples. A detailed discussion of
is given in the next section.
•
Latex Particles
Latex Particles are used to calibrate the Mean Platelet Volume. This
function is only used by Abbott Service Representatives.
