PiXtend V2 -L- Hardware Manual
6.7.2.RS485
The RS485 interface enables data transfer between several devices in a bus system.
PiXtend converts the UART signals of the Raspberry Pi to the differential levels of the
noise-insensitive RS / EIA485 standard.
Application examples:
–
Participation in an RS485 based bus system (Profibus, DMX, Modbus RTU ...)
–
Construction of a bus system with other control devices, microcontrollers,
measuring devices, frequency converters and much more
The RS485 transceiver on PiXtend is short-circuit proof and robust against interference.
Through a jumper directly next to the terminal block can be a
120 Ω terminating resistor can be optionally switched on or off.
An integrated bias network keeps the bus levels stable, improving immunity to
interference. The interface complies with the "MODBUS over Serial Line" specification.
The RS485 interface has a manual (labeled "M") and an automatic (labeled "A") mode.
This mode affects the behavior of switching between sending and receiving on the bus.
