Connection Notes
The following diagram illustrates the connection of ohmic and inductive DC loads to the
relay outputs.
The four relay outputs do not have an integrated fuse or other overload protection. It is
necessary to provide for external fuses which trigger at 6 A.
For inductive loads, a free-running diode or a suitable snubber network must be installed
externally. Otherwise, sparking may occur when the load is switched off, which could
interfere with other devices and damage the relay contacts.
Inductive loads are motors, relays, magnetic coils, power supplies with transformers etc.
The ground connections (GND) of external power supplies used in conjunction with relays
do not have to be connected to the general PiXtend GND. The relays have a potential
separation and therefore no conductive connection to other components or potentials of
PiXtend or Raspberry Pi.
