This is the “invalid data indicator”, same
as the “*” in the upper right corner of
the screen. It means that the on-screen
annotation does not match the
on-screen data, usually because a
measurement is pending after a settings
change. There is no message in the
status line and nothing in the history
queue, but there IS an on-screen
indication and a status bit.
